We worked with James MacKender, a principle of Unu Raymi, and from the outset it was clear his aim was to create a trip tailored to our hopes and dreams: seeing the sunrise over Machu Picchu; prioritizing hiking as much as possible throughout our time in Peru (we love being outside); and organizing an amazing hiking and hot springs experience in the Ausangate mountains – complete with a guide and cook who made amazing food (even a special birthday cake made with quinoa flour) and delivered his creations wherever we happened to be hiking in the mountains! There is nothing like hot soup and salad siting surrounded by snow-capped mountains! And even when our plane reservations were cancelled by our airline at the last moment, James and Unu Raymi were there to help us out, rebook our flights and find us a great hotel! Many thanks to Unu Raymi and James MacKender and his team for making this all possible. If you have the chance to visit Peru or other countries in South America where Unu Raymi works, place yourself in the hands of James and his team – they will create a unique and once-in-a-life-time experience for you.

  Great tour - Unuraymi organised a great tour for me, including a customised visit to Lake Titikaka on top of the Sacred Valley/Machu Picchu tour. James himself was responsive, proactive and friendly, and planned around my onward travel schedule very well. The accommodation was also very comfortable.

A couple of things I’d advise is that the trains at the end of the trek from Santa Teresa to Aguas Calientes seemed to be slightly unpredictable - we unfortunately ended up trekking in the dark as the last train was for locals only. The transfers and activities can also be quite early in the morning - useful for making the most of the day, but coffee perhaps needed! Overall, a great trip though.

In fact, he went... read more out of his way to schedule the trek in between two other organized expeditions to accommodate my desire to travel. My guide, Eduardo, was extremely knowledgeable, technically proficient, and extremely helpful in teaching me all of the skills necessary such that I could have been able to do the whole trek myself! The service and equipment were all top notch - especially traveling solo, I never once felt unsafe, and if anything felt completely welcome and at home. I am excited to travel with them again in the future and you should be too!
